| contd :- -6- siderable spring noise with the double springs being manifest by a loud 'swishing' noise at various engine speeds. This we trace to spring periods, the noise being due to the coils striking each other. We have not yet been successful in over-coming this. The present rocker mechanism cover we find con-siderably amplifies the valve noises. An appreciable improve-ment has been effected by placing felt strips under the base and spring washers under the holding-down thumb screws. This scheme applied to the F.A.B. engines and is now on production and we recommend it should be applied to the SS.{S. Smith} engine. We hope to have the new carburetter ready in a few days.
