YOUR REF.

20th December 1935.

Messrs. Rolls Royce Ltd.,
Experimental Dept.,
DERBY.

Dear Sirs,

For the attention of W.A.Robotham Esq.

Confirming our telephone conversation to-day, we are able to advise you that twelve pistons delivered to you on 14th December in response to your telegram and under our Advice Note S.28032, were made from castings which are strictly in accordance with the production specification and that the machined pistons themselves are in accordance with the production specification.

Mr.Matthews may have been somewhat misled by the fact that adjustment for weight is made by machining back the open end of the skirt, and in the beginning, we find that this is always rather more variable than the amount necessary at a later date, when the foundry equipment settles down with use.

In any case, we would also confirm that we are delivering the first 48 to the production department to-day for approval by your inspection, so that further pistons would be available to you
