These bearings cannot be grooved to the same dimensions as the Hall's metal bearings on account of breaking into the steel shell, thus weakening the white metal face.

In the event of one white metal big end failure it may be replaced by a new white metal bearing provided the remaining bearings are O.K. If all the big ends are beginning to go we recommend that these be replaced with Hall's metal bearings with R-R.56 shims. In this case it is probable that the main bearings will be in poor condition and they should therefore be replaced as explained in the foregoing.
