From Exp. Dept. Copies for: Mr Royce. Mr Johnson. Mr Day. Mr Hadin. Ron/by/4/114813. August 14th. 1913. Report on test of a second Pivot P.3372. - K.188 We have tested a second pivot of this type on the reversal test rig and a breakage occured in an exactly similar manner to the previous one which we tested, i.e. the stub axle broke off sharp at the root. The breakage occured after 4 1/2 hours running. This second test was made at the request of Mr Royce (in Mr Elliott's note from Le CanadelHenry Royce's French residence 21/07'13), as Mr Royce thought there may be some defect in the metal. I think it advisable that the stub should be thickened up at the root. It also appears to me that the U section is heavier than is necessary, and it might have the effect of strengthening the whole job if this were lightened, as the strength in the whole thing would then be more uniform. | ||
