GROUPED INSTRUMENTS.

We thank you for your BY7/H15827. Giving our remarks under the headings (1) (2) and (3) we would say -

(1) We suggested not waiting for the A.T. speedometer with a trip for the first EAC.7 chassis over a year ago because we were told that the chassis would be ready before the patch of instruments. Since however for some while the conditions have been reversed we thinkwe should have been going ahead to perfect this grouped instrument system.

(2) Mr. North has been here today and R.{Sir Henry Royce} has approved of the clock for the instrument patch, with cream dial, and of a clock for our standard instrument board mounting with black dial. These Mr. North will forward to you immediately.

(3) We were entirely ignorant of any of the information conveyed under this heading. We were unaware that the old English type dial had been turned down by R.{Sir Henry Royce}, and we have never seen or heard of the Venetian cream finish. We presume that this matter was taken up directly with R.{Sir Henry Royce}, and we suggest that we should be informed by having a copy of the correspondence on all such occasions, as R.{Sir Henry Royce} always expects us to be fully informed in such matters, that is, parts appertaining to coachwork in which we are expected to keep R.{Sir Henry Royce} largely posted.

We understand from Mr. North that the cream dial for the clock has hand painted figures, but in future these will be printed. We also understand that the dial was made by a dial maker, who will make the other dials to correspond. R.{Sir Henry Royce} approved of this particular cream dial. We do not know whether it is the Venetian cream dial to which you referred.

We presume that there are no other difficulties in the way of fitting up a set of framed instruments for sending to WW., so that we may hand them on to Sales for fitting to a car, and their subsequent approval.

You will realise that coachwork is in a somewhat peculiar position, in that R.{Sir Henry Royce} does not, generally speaking, reckon to carry all information and decisions in his memory, and looks to us to keep the records. In this particular case of dials he appealed to us to inform him of what decisions he had made.
