RE CAR FOR USE BY "R". [Handwritten] HS {Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}

Da. {Bernard Day - Chassis Design} has told me of your telephone message of yesterday and I have seen RS. {Sir Henry Royce's Secretary}

R is sending you a memo saying that 20.G.4. would do and I suggest to you that it would be wise to say no more to him about the car but to send it here when it is ready and to collect 16.G.4.

RS. {Sir Henry Royce's Secretary} has not got any reply from him re the colour and I again suggest that it is useless to try to do so.

He has never liked the Beaumont Green which the car was painted but accepted it at the time as it was then popular at Sales and he knew that the car would be used by them for demonstration purposes.

I am prepared to take the sole responsibility of repainting the car all black with a fine green line, leaving the upholstery and trimming as at present. This would be the quickest way of making the car less conspicuous which was one of "R's" criticisms. I will also be entirely responsible for the fitting of the heater.

Could Sales let me know when the car will be available when I will arrange with HN. {F. C. Honeyman - Retail orders} to get a price for the repainting and to have several little details attended to in the body, one of which is the terrible draught which hits one in the back of the neck when the sunshine roof is closed.
