TO BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} FROM E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} C. to -BJ. HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} RECEIVED 6 OCT 1926 Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} ORIGINAL E3/M5.10.26. PHANTOM CARBURETTER. X8080 Referring to your sch. No.809. shewing ball bearings on the throttle spindle of the carburetter, we anticipate that there will be trouble due to rusting with these bearings, also we fear that as designed the spindle is too weak where the slot for the disc valve runs into the reduced dia. at the ends. Mr. Royce would like you to revise this sch., employing roller bearings instead of balls. The rollers should be made of stainless steel, and they should run direct on the throttle spindle, and in a stainless steel housing. These modifications should enable you to get the bearing into a small dia. without employing a weak shaft. We do not want to move the carburetter any further away from the engine as it is already too near to the bonnet. The throttle valve might be built in nearer to the low speed jet centre. We return herewith your original sch. 809., together with a letter from the Hoffmann Ball Bearing Co. dated Sep.24. E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} | ||
