Re Visit of Da.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} and Grylls to U.S.A.

Herewith attached are copies of two letters from Da.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} dated 17th and 18th November.

Tyre noise effects seem to be imputed to transmission through the suspension and amplification by the bodywork and wings.

I am still of the opinion that we ought to, as soon as possible, carry out an experiment with a Phantom 3 body mounted throughout on rubber with a semi-isolation attachment to dash.

If this experiment produced a favourable result and incurred no serious disadvantages its practical interpretation would be the present bodies converted to silent-bloc mountings.

We are studying the points raised in connection with rubber bushed shackles. These have been tried by us but before tyre noise became prominent. We understand the Buick at our works is not so fitted.

Da.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} and Grylls have uncovered nothing against torsion bar suspension for front end so far. This scheme on the contrary appears to be favoured.

E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer}
