S/W. Dr. e.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} to Sg{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD}, Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}, Wor{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager}, EP{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer} c. " C, PN{Mr Northey} Es, Hn{F. C. Honeyman - Retail orders}, Vr.{E. S. Voller - Orders} [Handwritten]: Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} Y 5410. Ox15/KW24.7.31. Springing - 20/25 h.p. Arising out of correspondence between Sg{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} and Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}, copies of which have from time to time been sent to you, and with particular reference to Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}5/MJ.13.7.31( a copy of which was sent to you), Sg{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} has instructed us to pass to you a request for putting in hand two dozen sets of low rating springs which will be fitted to chassis as, and when, we give you final erection particulars, in order that we may gain some experience of the behaviour of these springs in private hands when supplied to customers in the ordinary way. As we have Trials Cars in our [handwritten: own] hands now with these springs, we shall not propose to order them for any cars that are being built for stock, as Stock Cars might remain in stock for some months, and we should be losing the benefit that these springs might be creating in the hands of users. Therefore, they will be absorbed as orders come through on cars definitely allotted to customers. We are therefore requesting the various Departments [strikethrough: here] who send you from time to time erection particulars, to give you the usual information in regard to loads, and then to specify in addition "low rating" springs, which will no doubt be coupled with the special damping which you find necessary for these springs. Would you please let me know approximately when you will be ready to supply such springs for ordinary production chassis, so that I may notify those concerned when they can start sending you the necessary erection particulars.
