E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} Platford Esq.

-2-

have been urged, however, from several quarters, to try a system such as you saw yesterday, in which fixed wheel comes in immediately after the change, and such a system obviously needs either a controlled main clutch, or an exceptionally strong transmission.

After you left, I discussed with Mr. Hives the question of other uses of our clutch, and he finally gave me a ● drawing of your experimental gearbox, embody-ing a constant mesh third, with the object of seeing whether we could introduce two of our clutches to take the place of the sliding dog clutch. We are looking into this at once, and will let you know immediately if the design looks possible.

I am enclosing also our design for the replaced Studebaker unit, which we have got out at their request. Our clutch is very adaptable to any application such as this, and we feel very confident that both for strength and lack of wear in freewheeling, it is equal to, if not better than any other at present available.

Yours sincerely,

J.W. Turngley
