20/25 HP. INSTRUMENT BOARD.

Further to our Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Wst.4/KT23.10.31 re the above we have now discussed the matter still further with Messrs. Smith's instrument engineer and they have submitted a design of instrument board very similar to our 40/50 patch but approx. 1" longer. This extra length is to accomodate the extra instrument namely the electric petrol level indicator. The speedometer and clock will be in the same positions but the ammeter and electric petrol gauge will be at the top being matched at the bottom with the oil and temperature gauges. The red temperature warning light is being deleted.

They are making this board a steel pressing instead of cast aluminium but otherwise the method of holding the instruments and general design is very much the same as our 40/50 HP.

With regard to the instruments, they will supply their own which includes the A.T. speedometer which they control. They have not yet got a satisfactory electric clock on the market of their own manufacture, the one they offered us being a French made instrument of much inferior quality to our Boyce clock. They are, however, going into the matter immediately and hope to submit an electric clock of their own manufacture shortly. The moving coil ammeter will be substituted for their moving iron type.

Deleting the red warning light helps them considerably as they do not market an instrument with electric contacts fitted for operating warning lights.

We have asked for a dummy "patch" to be made up with all the instruments in position in order that all concerned may get a better idea of the layout.
