as in a previous battery we received.

3. There is rather more metal in the positive grids than previously, the idea being to give greater robustness at the sacrifice of a little efficiency.

4. The positive and negative grids are provided, as in the Chloride case, each with a pair of feet, but in such a manner that two rows of feet of the positive grid are not in the same line as the negative. There are four ebonite bridges across the positive plates of the cell, upon two of which the positive plates rest, the positive and negative elements thus being independently supported.

5. The separators are arranged slightly to overlap the plates all round and to entirely eliminate, we hope, the possibility of short circuits by buckling, and pinched or chafed separators, the overlap at the bottom being equal to the depth of the feet.

6. The vents have been made by providing a collar in the lid{A. J. Lidsey} into which the vent screws, so as to be at a higher level in relation to the plates than previously. Otherwise the vent itself is the same. We previously found the vents to be satisfactory except for the fact that they were too near the electrolyte.

7. Lead-covered brass terminals are provided by which flat connection can be made to special cable terminals as made by us and used as standard. These terminals are slightly smaller than we should think desirable.

8. It will be seen that the block of plates is also afforded some support at either side by plates of ebonite placed at the sides and an ebonite plate fitted in the lid.{A. J. Lidsey}

9. The battery is not provided with a case as in our specification, copy of which was sent to them at the time of our letter, but is supplied in a box from which the cells would have to be lifted to be placed in the R.R. battery box. We do not know at the moment their reason for departing from our specification in this respect. Except for the cell to cell connections, the cells are quite detached.
The box in which the battery was sent apparently is not intended to be the case, as it stands too high and is not provided with handles for lifting the battery in and out of the R.R. box.
We consider that in view of the fact that the cell connections are burnt up, it would be much better to provide a case and to completely pitch the cells in.
