GOSHAWK 11.
RE.MOUNTING OF DYNAMO.

We consider that the present mounting of the dynamo on Goshawk 11, engine is likely to give considerable trouble on production. As there is no means whatever of adjusting the alignment on the dynamo, it means that the machining of all crankcases and all generators have got to be made to exceedingly fine limits. We consider that it is essential that the generators should be interchangeable. One knows from experience that electrical units will give trouble and we think that it ought to be possible to send a new generator to a customer and for him to fit it on. With the present arrangement, this is impracticable because the engine gears would certainly need quieting. We have pointed this matter out to R.{Sir Henry Royce} but we consider the difficulties of manufacture and service should be gone into by the Works and if they consider the design is such that it is going to be difficult to produce and difficult to maintain interchangeability, they should protest to R.{Sir Henry Royce} With the latest alteration of the magneto drive, we believe it would be possible to fix a flexible coupling for the generator without much trouble.
