Rolls Royce Ltd., DERBY. Dear Fowler Clark, I saw Mr. Royce and I mentioned the Lucas machine as promised and he said much the same as what you told me, but he seemed principally interested in the performance of my machine when it had done 10,000 miles as it has only done 2,000 up to date. He was much impressed with the way the engine ran on it. With regard to the battery indicator, he said that I had not made this in accordance with his idea and had mistaken what he was after. He wanted a vessel containing liquid with a gas jet near the bottom which would blow up bubbles through the liquid and I am going to get one made. If we can get it to work he wants me to take out one to Le CanadelHenry Royce's French residence which he wants to try on his 40/50 there. I asked him what sort of battery he has on this car because of getting an air tight vent to fit it (which I think necessitates a screw type) and he said he did not know but that I could find out from you or Hives as doubtless you would be fitting him up with some battery. Would you therefore let me know what battery will be put on that car this Winter. I urged the automatic control that you were on but he did not seem to have given this matter serious consideration and I rather gathered that he had not seen what you had made. Yours sincerely, g.{Mr Griffiths - Chief Accountant / Mr Gnapp} R.{Sir Henry Royce} N. Minchin. E.H.D. | ||
