Dear Sirs,

As discussed with one of your representatives at Olympia last week we are sending you drawings of two gearboxes and two rear axle centre cases for your views on the ease with which these can be die cast.

In the case of the large gearbox on which the front half has two extensions for taking the weight, we should not mind if these were separate features bolted to the main case. We think this may be necessary unless we sand cast the front half as now.

You will remember that the idea of using die castings was to save cost on the finished product. If, therefore, you consider that any of the drawings we have sent you will make satisfactory die castings we should be glad if you would let us know an approximate figure for the cost of the dies. If you could also give us an idea of the total cost of the finished machined piece made as a die casting and a sand casting it will be of great help to us.

If there are any further points you want to discuss the writer could come over to your Works towards the end of next week.

Yours faithfully,

For Rolls-Royce Ltd.
