Dear E.W.:

In connection with a recent letter of yours in which you say that AC fuel pumps are no good in Germany because their fuels attack the diaphragms, I was talking last week with Charles Crawford, Chief Engineer of Opel, who is also closely in touch with General Motors service in Germany.

He says briefly that the AC pump has virtually a 100% clean record with German fuel, there having been no trouble with diaphragms on the Opel or on the very large number of Chevrolets in the country.

What has given them a lot of trouble however is "pirated" diaphragms sold through independent garages and fitted as a "necessary" job in connection with general overhaul of General Motors cars.

These are sold in Germany at a low price but are of a material which is porous at the end of a few months.

I thought this information might interest you.

Sincerely,
Maurice Olley
