The above engine unit has been stripped and inspected after a 15,000 miles road test. Where components have not completed the full mileage the actual running accomplished is given in the section concerned.

Crankcase and Bearings.

Complete to LOP.EB.3643 incorporating the following :-

EW.1769 Crankcase - Lower Half.
EW.1778 Fitting Bolts.
EW.1779 Bushes.
EW.1761 Crankcase - Upper Half - modified to Ex.30696.
Ex.30697/8/9/700 Main Bearing Caps.

The upper half crankcase is in good condition and free from cracks, as are the lower half crankcase and wheelcase.

All tappet bores are very satisfactory and show no signs of wear.

As will be seen from the attached photograph, the camshaft bearings are in good condition.

The main bearing caps are free from cracks and the oil gallery feed pipes are satisfactory.

The Vandervell main bearings are in good condition - Nos. 3, 5 and 6 are slightly scored and the bearing surface shows local hard bedding. Bearing No.7 is very satisfactory - in this case the oil groove is only .025 in depth. Small portions of bearing metal have broken away from Nos. 2, 3, 5 and 6, as shown by the attached photograph. The rear thrust bearing was changed at 13,454 miles - see attached photograph.
