To RHC.{R. H. Coverley - Production Engineer} from Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Std. c. By.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} c. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} 324 Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Std.7/AP.13.4.38. Ph.III. HIGH SPEED FAN, D.{John DeLooze - Company Secretary} SERIES CARS. There is a proposal to standardise 5 blade high speed fans on D.{John DeLooze - Company Secretary} series Ph.III. cars. The new pieces are likely to be as instructed in By/CS.7/LH.{Mr Haworth}7.1.38 (copies to RHC{R. H. Coverley - Production Engineer}/CAN. and HPS{Horace Percy Smith - Experimental Factory Mgr}), but the new wheel case to E.89253 called for is not essential and existing cases could be modified. If the 'Ferogrip' belt is not obtainable in time it will be necessary to use the British Goodrich belt, mould No.242, and this will necessitate a new starting handle support bracket and bearing similar to Ex.27051 and Ex.26225. Will you please let us have as soon as possible the inclusive scrap cost of bringing this fan and drive in immediately on D.{John DeLooze - Company Secretary} series cars. (a) If 'Ferogrip' belt is used i.e. no starting handle support bracket change. (b) If Goodrich belt is used i.e. new starting handle bearing support bracket to Ex.27051, new bearing to Ex.26225, sleeve nuts to Ex.26229/30 and starting handle support bracket bosses on wheelcase filed off on off-side of wheel case.
