To Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} from Ev.{Ivan Evernden - coachwork} Secret. 1022 EV{Ivan Evernden - coachwork}5/25.1.40 copy ot Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Cts.{C. Trot Salt - Carburation} Ev{Ivan Evernden - coachwork}/HH. RE ENGINE UNIT. SILVER RIPPLET 2-R-2. We have digested a report on the engine unit for the above car made by RH.{R. Hollingworth}(no reference) in connection with our specification and below we give our comments. See.5000. CRANKCASE AND BEARINGS. The crankcase RE.106. caters for Vandervell Bearings. but and existing crankcase will need to be modified. The correct temporary engine mounting using rubbers which exist is PL.92. The scheme for the final engine is PL.93. The Dynamo Mounting to suit the Lucas machine is PL.104. a scheme which is now in hand and will detailed without delay. We are asking Ev{Ivan Evernden - coachwork}/HH. to make the modifications to the Tappet Covers to delete the stiffeners and to use a small nut tightening down onto a distance piece with a thicker joint washer. Although we are detailing a Revolution Counter Drive one cannot add this to an existing engine. See.5030. CONNECTING RODS. Ev{Ivan Evernden - coachwork}/HH. is about to instruct machined rods to suit the standard Vandervell Bearings. See.5040. PISTONS. No detail of the piston is available. Cts.{C. Trot Salt - Carburation} is getting the pistons which he wants from an outside source and will be able to supply a drawing in due course. See.5050. CYLINDER HEAD. The Rocker Cover should be to PD.430. with the modified joint lip to ECD.1526. added. Ev{Ivan Evernden - coachwork}/HH. will issue a revised detail. The Water outlet is shewn on ECD.1487. and it is down on the covering note with the Specification as one of the schemes which have to be detailed. See.5060. VALVES AND FITTINGS. A detail of the .4% carbon push-rods will be issued. We are aware that there are a number of details and L.O.P's on the Engine Section which are outstanding and we are doing our best to catch up. The sections mentioned will be given preference. We suggest that you may wish to give one of the spare copies of this memo to RH.{R. Hollingworth} and also to arrange for copies of the Specification to be corrected where necessary. Ev.{Ivan Evernden - coachwork} | ||
