Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}2/R.14.6.39. 6 Continental Chassis. Our recommendations for the production of the six Continental chassis required by the Motor Show are as follows:- We recommend that the Exptl. Dept. produce, with the assistance of the Works, six sets of the special pieces required. When these are completed they will be handed over to Production who will build them into cars using standard pieces drawn from the 50 sets of material at present going through. In ordering the next batch of standard material, it should be borne in mind that the parts which are replaced by special parts will be redundant, unless provision is made for using them up. The reason we want the Exptl. Shop to make the special parts is that we shall be in constant touch with the 15,000 mile car, and, therefore, if any trouble occurs will be able to hold up any of the parts affected. With regard to the gearbox, we are prepared to release a further 6 sets to the last specification. This means that 24 gearboxes in all should be put in hand forthwith, six of which are required by the Exptl. Dept., see Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Gry{Shadwell Grylls}3/R.27.5.39. The Exptl. Dept. has not, of course, the equipment for gear-cutting and grinding, and, therefore, of necessity these gearboxes must be made by Production. In return for their assistance, however, we could make the special parts required for the Continental cars. Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} | ||
