To By, from BJ. Copies to Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} "V" SERIES MODIFICATIONS. With reference to By11/H24.3.25, C.J. has asked me to say that it is most necessary to avoid a single further modification other than those we have already agreed, unless it is definitely to overcome a serious defect which is likely to cause the car to break down, and it is most desirable that no modifications should be made which cannot be included in the car which is starting next week for the 10,000 miles test in France. We understand that there will be a conference at Derby early in next week, at which it will be decided what points the technical officials consider are absolutely essential to be modified, and that these points will be sent to us with a clear explanation of why each is absolutely essential in the "V" Series. Please also show whether the modifications will be on the car now starting for France for 10,000 miles test, and whether the incorporation of the modification will cause a delay in production, and if so, to what extent. At present we do not understand whether it is absolutely necessary to modify the radiator shutter and starter controls on the "V" Series. If it is considered essential, please send a sample dashboard which has had the holes plugged, so that we may see how far it is noticeable. If it is essential to calorize the mild steel exhaust down-takes to prevent burning, we presume this modification will be included in the car which is shortly starting to France for 10,000 miles test.
