TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT. (40/50 AND 20 HP.)

Referring to your BJ1/Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}6.23 suggesting the possibility of carrying less tools on both the 40/50 and 20 HP. cars. We consider we should try to get rid of the bulky equipment rather than special tools, for instance, the whole of the special spanners on the car do not take up more room than the tyre pump. We agree, that the special spanners we supply are rarely required, but when the time comes that they are required, it is impossible to carry out the work without them.

The question of how much equipment shall be carried on the car greatly depends upon how the car is used. If the car is touring the Continent, we consider it should carry a complete kit, but if it is only run for short journeys, it is only necessary to carry hand tools.

Our recommendation is that we should endeavour to get rid of some of the following bulky parts of the equipment :-

1. Petrol Funnel.
We do not consider it is necessary to carry a petrol funnel. Petrol pumps now new being largely used, do away with the necessity for a funnel. Also anywhere petrol is purchased, a funnel is available.

2. Spare 2-gall. tin of petrol.
Now that we are supplying a petrol level indicator to all cars, we think there is much less reason for carrying a spare tin of petrol. The driver can always see at a glance when the car is stopped, how much petrol is in the tank. Petrol is now so widely distributed that we think there is no necessity for carrying a spare tin.

3. Two spare Inner Tubes.
When two spare wheels are carried on the 40/50 HP., we think it is unnecessary to carry also two spare tubes.
