We have ascertained that with 59.5 rear track and 7.000 x 16 wheels the width of the top of the rear cushion of Silver Wraith will be identical with that of Wraith III. We agree that if 7.500 x 16 wheels are used, no cushion width will be lost, as the front suspension will demand that the tyre be moved out on the hub to maintain the tyre to steering lever clearance. The rear tracks would then be 61.150. The out of centre point with 7.500 wheels and the present suspension would be 2.745". This may be too much in which case it will be necessary to use the new yoke and stub axle made of reduced out-of-centre point, when the figure is reduced to 1.625". The Phan.III. track was originally 61.000 and gave a cushion top width 1.800" approx. greater than Wraith III. Although for various reasons since the first cars the rear track has increased by 2.100" to 63.100", the coachbuilders drawing has not shewn any increase width between the wheel arches. We do not know if any of our coachbuilders have appreciated the change and taken advantage of it. EV.{Ivan Evernden - coachwork} | ||
