Steering Column Support from Scuttle.
Column Gearshift - Senior Range.

[Handwritten signature] Hky

The steering column gearshift for the Senior Range calls for a modified column support from the scuttle.

On PL.226 (2 prints herewith) we shew the revised scheme which is applicable to R.H. and L.H. drive cars as well as for both angles of steering column.

Whilst making the revision we have cleaned up the appearance and reduced the weight.

The use of a Harris Bush in place of the rubber in the column clamp as at present, we feel is to be preferred as it gives us a chance to discover and them keep constant the degree of flexibility in the support, consistant with road noise.

We have ascertained that the torsion on the steering column tube resulting froma side load on the steering wheel of 50 lbs. will not produce a sideways deflection of more than 18 thous. The deflection resulting from such a load due to lack of rigidity in the member in the scuttle is far greater, and we suggest that the coachbuilder should be asked to make a better mechanical job of this feature.
