We have been running 1.EX Car fitted with a condenser taken from the U.S.A. Bosch Battery Ignition. Owing to the favourable shape of this condenser, it is possible to fit it inside the tower instead of inside the contact breaker cover.
The car has run approximately 2000 miles since this was fitted.
We have had no fault to find with the ignition. At the same time we have been running with the tungsten points fitted to the contact breaker.
We feel that we ought to explore the possibility of condensers with paper insulations. Every U.S.A. Battery ignition equipment we have examined has had this type of condenser.
We have never yet experienced the least trouble with these condensers and also on the whole we have been remarkably free from any pitting with the contact breaker points. We have not been entirely free from condenser troubles with our mica condensers. There was a period where we had considerable trouble.
The cost of a mica condenser is many times the cost of a paper condenser.
We strongly recommend that on the new battery ignition for Goshawk 11. we should test both types of condenser.
