81140. x7->60. S/W. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} re- Bonnet Locks - 40/50 h.p. Chassis. Cx{Major Len W. Cox - Advertising Manager}15/KW15.1.32. Sg{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} has asked me to write to you on this question, because we are anxious to make a decision as to what bonnet locks shall be fitted in future on chassis of the above type. We have been given to understand that it is considered necessary that we should fit the new bar type lock on the 40/50 h.p. chassis having the diamond form of engine mounting, but we are not yet clear as to why that is. The cost seems to render the suggestion impossible - the price being very high. On Sg{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD}'s Car (58-GN) the engine has been specially fitted with the diamond engine mounting but it has the ordinary type of Yale bonnet locks and he has found no disadvantage in this arrangement. Will you please let us know if there is any really urgent reason why the bar type lock should be used, as if not, it would appear to us to be a more practicable scheme to retain the Yale locks for those who wish to have locks to the bonnet at all.
