To BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} from E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} Copy to CC. " " SON. (crossed out) " " GA. (crossed out) " " HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} (crossed out) " " E.O. (crossed out) ORIGINAL E1/G24/6/21. [STAMP: RECEIVED FO 27 JUN] [Handwritten: X4220] RE "GOSHAWK" CRANKCASE. We send you herewith drawings Lec.1413 and 1414 shewing our suggestions for simplifying the cores for the "Goshawk II" Crankcase. The first one deals with the rear supporting arm sockets. These have been shortened the amount necessary to prevent interference of the cores in placing, we think. "D" shaped bosses are left in the main compartment core which, so far as we can see, will cause you no trouble. The suspension tubes on each side are interchangeable, and the hole in the casting is made longer on the one side where it can be, in accordance with Mr. Royce's wishes. Referring to the latter drawing, the valve tappet guide bosses have been shortened ¼", and an existing nut has been used for the clamping bolt instead of using the nut tightened by end serrations.
