Rolls-Royce Ltd., Derby. For the attention of Mr. H.{Arthur M. Hanbury - Head Complaints} E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} West. Dear Sirs, We have to acknowledge receipt of your letter of the 9th inst., and regret that you state that the instruction given us re 5% fast reading at 60 m.p.h. up to a total of 6 1/2% at 100 m.p.h., has not been correctly carried out. On making investigation, it is reported to the writer that this scaling was most carefully laid out, but, instead of jumping straight on 5% at 60 m.p.h., we started to bring this fast reading in at 40 m.p.h., and, according to our records, the figures you gave us should have been recorded exactly on the dial. We note that you are making this right yourselves, but are not quite clear what you intend to do to adjust the instrument. If you alter the revs of the instrument itself, you will naturally throw the mileage out somewhat. If you could possibly spare the instrument back to us for 24 hours, we should like to carefully check it and adjust it here. Always at your service, and awaiting your reply, Yours faithfully, For A.T. SPEEDOMETER CO. LTD., H R Buckland Director. | ||
