Mr. W. A.{Mr Adams} Robotham,
Experimental Department,
Messrs. Rolls-Royce, Ltd.

Dear Sir,

I beg to offer myself as a candidate for the vacancy for an Assistant in your Department. The existence of this vacancy was notified to me by the University of London Appointments Board, who have advised me to make this application.

On the accompanying official application form of the Board are given particulars of my training and qualifications, but I may add that I have obtained considerable experience with internal combustion engines (petrol engines included) and other parts of motor car mechanism in the engineering laboraties of the Royal College of Science

As you may hesitate before granting me an interview on account of my distance from your works, I should be willing to serve for a week without salary as a test of my abilities. I make this offer to show that I am confident of being able to retain the appointment, if I once got a trial.

I am, Dear Sir,
Your obedient servant,
P. J.{Mr Johnson W.M.} leorr.
