HY.{Tom Haldenby - Plant Engineer} ORIGINAL. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Gry.{Shadwell Grylls}12/KT.31.10.32. P.II. SYABIEKENGEL X7310 FAILURE OF 3rd. MOTION SHAFT. We have to report that the 3rd. motion shaft on the gearbox in 19-EX has broken at the section where the diameter decreases for the 3rd. and 4th. gear sliding piece. We attach a photograph of the broken shaft. The gearbox has done 20,000 miles in France and about 3000 since. We propose for production altering existing shafts to the attached sketch and for new shafts a similar treatment except that the .100 dimension will be increased to .150".
