Dear Mr. Robotham,

Many thanks for your letter of the 21st instant, but unfortunately you had addressed this to Luton, Beds., with the result that I only received it this morning.

Regarding Camshaft Bearings, it is the accepted practice throughout practically the entire motor car world, and it is better and more economical, to ream, bore or broach Camshaft Bearings into position, as it has been found that when pressing bearings into a hole with an interference fit it, is impossible to control the internal diameter without reamering in position.

Packards tried this in America for some time and finally gave it up as so much accurate machining had to be put into the case and combined with the accuracy on the bearings, it was found to be far cheaper to take an ordinary normal Camshaft Bearing, press it into a normal hole and then finally ream or bore to the required size to take the Camshaft. I would recommend without hesitation that this procedure be adopted.
