To E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} From Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/GWH.{George W. Hancock - Head Chateauroux} 17000. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/GWH.{George W. Hancock - Head Chateauroux}1/WJ.28.5.30. RE. PHANTOM OIL LEAKS FROM REAR OF CRANKCASE. 17000 We tried the suggestion you made of balancing the clutch casing with the pressure under the bonnet. A .500" dia pipe was fitted into the clutch casing and led up under the bonnet close by the autovac to obtain the max. pressure. The result was the same as when using the flywheel as a pump. We still got an oil leak after a hard run. Both schemes are an improvement over the present standard, but further improvement is necessary. Would you suggest on the next car for 10,000 miles the annulus round the rear bearing be made greater in conjunction with the balancing scheme. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/G.W.Hancock. | ||
