X.3900. COPY. REPORT B. December, 2nd. 1919. RE ALTERATIONS PROPOSED AS DESIRABLE ON AMERICAN ROLLS-ROYCE CARS. Minutes of morning conference held at 27 William Street, Saturday, November, 29th 1919. Present: Mr. Balnap. President. Mr. Mackenzie. Treasurer. Mr. J.C. Royce. Mr. Nadin. Mr. Olley. This report deals with items of suggested alterations of less importance than those dealt with in Report A.{Mr Adams} The items were subsequently read at a Conference in the afternoon at which Mr. J.C. Royce. Mr. Hardner. Mr. Caswell. Mr. Nadin. Mr. Olley. were present, Mr. Nadin had to leave after about half the items were dealt with. The 5 items of Report A were also submitted at the afternoon conference and were agreed to by Mr. Caswell and Mr. Gardner, who had not been present in the morning. The suggestions made on the following items at the afternoon conference are inserted below in brackets. All the alterations suggested were agreed to by all at both morning and afternoon conferences as being desirable. Bigger end faces on the spring eyes. Much side play develops at the spring eyes after running under U.S. conditions, due to the rough roads, and the fact that the car are so well sprung that they are habitually driven faster than probably any other make of car over the American roads, which are often full of pot-holes and "waves", caused by the heavy traffic. (It was suggested at the morning conference that the shackle-bolts should also be increased in diameter, but Mr. Caswell in the afternoon stated that in his experience this was unnecessary, because the slack which developed was almost entirely side play due to wear of the end faces of the eyes.
