TBB6/L17612. June 17th. 1912. Mr Royce Re Heating of Floorboards. With reference to your note dated June 12th in which you state - "I have not yet heard what advantage arises from louvred undershields and free air under dashboard " - I give below the results of some tests taken by Mr Platford a few weeks ago. These tests have already been sent to you (on May 15th) but they were combined with a number of other tests which now appear to me to be stated in a manner which is perhaps not quite clear. Tests were taken on chassis 1948 at about 25 miles per hour with a fair trailing wind. The water temperature was in each case brought to 75° at the start of the test and the car run until the water boiled. 1. Old Standard. Dashboard open with side guards completely closed and standard bonnet. | | Atmospheric temperature | Water temperature | Floorboards top | Floorboards underneath | Time. | |---|---|---|---|---|---| | At start | 21° C | 75° C | 30° C | 42° C | 0 mins. | | At finish | 21° C | boiling | 28° C | 48° C | 5 mins. | Handwritten text: On left margin: X819 Signature area: File WR Report Bottom right corner: R | ||
