Lr{Mr Ellor}/Cr.{Mr Cra???ster / Mr Chichester}5/JR.{Mr James Royce}15.1.40. Future Development of the Weight Analysis Section. In view of the fact that the chassis section is 'soon moving to Belper, and that much of the existing weight apparatus is also going, (Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}9/MH.{M. Huckerby}22.12.39) it is important that steps should now be taken to establish the Aero Weight Analysis section on a more useful and comprehensive basis. The following are a few points which should be taken into account when the future plans for weight analysis are considered. Purpose of Weight Analysis. That the design and experimental departments can always have up to date and accurate information on the weight of any one piece, or any one section of the engine in which they are interested. To be of maximum value the work covered by weight analysis should be as extensive as possible, should conform to a uniform system, should be accompanied by photographs, and should be the responsibility of one person, i.e. weights should not be obtained haphazardly by all and sundry. Suggested Scope of Future Weight Analysis. (1) The complete weight analysis of every engine as it becomes available should continue on a similar basis to that of the Merlin III just completed. (2) The recording of the weight of special parts on experimental engines as they are built should be started, with the ultimate aim of filing every important detail weight so that the chronological history of the weight of any part of an engine will be available. It would be essential in order to cope with this expanded programme that :- (a) A copy of every L.O.P. be sent to the Weight Section. Cont'd.{John DeLooze - Company Secretary} | ||
