The second modification for future work consists of light springs well set up - i.e. low rating and clutch with increased number of plates. The advantages are -

(1) Hold-off spring still low pressure and low rating - i.e. 1 to 2 lbs.

(2) Pinion cushion spring giving also increased initial friction, can be as low as original, say 5 to 7 lbs., and yet give initial friction of about 2½ times.

(3) Clutch proper will be definitely self grabbing, but limited to friction of three faces, plus slight collar generated by 90 lb. springs, which is sufficient for any engine, even cold, and should be 600 lbs. inches on engine, - i.e. 70 lbs. ins. on motor.

Motor spindles must be lengthened say .25 for the above, and threaded end increased from 7/16ths to ½, locked by plate washer, which should be done at once: bore up for lubrication.
