Rolls-Royce Ltd FB/AS. 24th August, 1938. Messrs. High Duty Alloys Limited, Buckingham Avenue, Trading Estate, Slough, Bucks. Dear Sirs, Attention of Mr. Richards. We have for some time been supplying various odd centre main bearings to Dennis Brothers of Guildford and about five weeks ago we visited Dennis Brothers accompanied by your Mr. Clift and also Mr.Matthews and another of his colleagues from Rolls-Royce, but up to date, we have so far failed to peduce a satisfactory bearing in A.C.9. Material, to meet the running conditions encountered in this engine. We have now received a letter from Dennis Bros., copy of which is enclosed and in view of discussions with various members of the Dennis staff, it may be advisable to supply bearings in A.C.6. material, so that a comparison of the two materials may be made, which will establish, either that one material may be better than the other or, on the other hand that it is obviously a question of general distortion, in which case the A.C. bearing will be no use to Dennis Brothers for this particular job. I have already inspected a bronze bearing, which has been run in the engine, the face of which is covered very thinly with white metal and I had to admit that the condition of this bearing was excellent. What is your reaction to the supplying | ||
