starter motor.

You will remember that I never objected to U.S.A. units if they would pass for perfection, but thought U.S.A. people should make a model identical with ours, or we should make or fit units identical with them, preferably each made in its own district.

I understand now that we are able to abandon this, and so long as each unit does its work perfectly and promises to go on doing so indefinitely with the minimum of repairs, each unit need not be identical on U.S.A. and European chassis, and it would be quite easy to say that is a U.S.A. chassis because it has U.S.A. dynamo, motor etc.

Mr. Hives' part in this matter is to get hold of units which he approves and then submit the models to me.

My own part is to supply sketches and drawings of alterations to induction system, and louvres with thermostat control. This is in hand at W.W. as well as some part at Derby and Springfield.

My Claude Johnson is to confirm his agreement that unrecognisability between the American and European models shall be abandoned.

It was a long time before Caswell, JCR, OY, and EP.{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer} informed us of the change in the quality of fuel;*it was left for HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} to find this out.* Nothing will ever quite equal good fuel, but the modifications in hand will do much to make the bad fuel more bearable.

We shall, by my instructions, be trying at Derby to run faultlessly with an increasing mixture of good petrol and paraffin (Kerosine)

Personally, I have been wrong in the past in pur-chasing good benzoline for my own use, because it has decived
