Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} from Mx.{John H Maddocks - Chief Proving Officer} x7770 Mx{John H Maddocks - Chief Proving Officer}1/T23.7.29 'SS{S. Smith}' CHASSIS STEERING. As I have already reported to you verbally, we are having trouble with a knock from the side steering tube. You are familiar with the cause and effect, as it is similar to a trouble we had on a 20HP chassis some time ago, which was overcome by modifying the rear contact piece assembly. SPRING GAITERS The front end of the spring gaiters foul the step iron brackets. I cannot see how we can overcome this difficulty - I know that your Experimental Cars have a similar foul. This feature is not noticeable on a finished car, as it is covered by the booting, but it looks bad on a chassis. EXHAUST SYSTEM. The front silencer fouls the frame truss rod. We have noticed that this has not any bad effect on the "SS{S. Smith}" chassis, but it is a point we were always keen on on the Phantom and Silver Ghost chassis, and we usually managed to get some clearance. 2450 2317 133 | ||
