Re: CHASSIS N° B.59.EJ - Mr. LOREL

(Total Mileage 5757 Kms.)

Upon dismantling the rear axle of this car in order to fit two reinforced type axle tubes, we found that there was scarcely any oil in the axle box. In fact the gears and the interior of the box were only in a moist state.

The gears had just started to pick up slightly. We have lightly stoned them and we think that they will not give any trouble.

Upon examination, we found the o/s (R.H.) oil seal to be faulty, inasmuch as the inner metal ring of the oil seal was slack and therefore revolved and churned out the oil.

The seals were found to have been fitted the correct way round and the leathers were in a good condition. Although a lot of oil was lost via the o/s (R.H.) axle tube, none found its way on to the brake mechanism, due to the efficient oil drain now fitted to this type of axle.

This car has been in service since August 1935.

We checked the oil level in the axle before the car was delivered to the owner and we found the level to be O.K.

You will observe that the car has covered a very small mileage since delivery.

Please let us know whether you want us to send you the oil seals for examination.

Sr/VA.
