Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}3/LG12.4.20. X.2628. RE REAR SPRINGS. X.1331. X.1295. We have carried out tests on the bumping rig with split rear springs which have had fitted to them extra clips to the plates to see whether we could increase the life of these springs before they break. We machined and fitted three clips to either end of each spring. We clipped the second leaf, the third leaf of the fourth leaf to the bottom leaf. The results of the tests on the bump rig do not show any marked advantage as regards the life of the springs with these clips fitted. We have run 25 hours with the clips fitted and during this run the following breakages have occurred. O.S. bottom leaf after 10 hrs. 45 mins. O.S. " " " 12 " O.S.
