The larger cars start in the 1 1/2-litre class, which was hotly contested. Frazer Nashes and Aston Martins are in the van.

drivers were all Irishmen, the two silver Invictas, and—E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} R.{Sir Henry Royce} Hall's neat green Bentley, embodiment of smooth power. Finally, nearly nine minutes after the Magnettes had started, the eight 1,100 c.c. Rileys and Ashton Rigby's M.G. Magna set off, leaving Powys-Lybbe alone in his glory, that is to say, his somewhat battered-looking Alvis, a doughty car despite its looks, and one most enthusiastically prepared by private owners. Then after a few seconds he, too, set off, and all the forty cars were away snarling round the circuit, where vast crowds packed several deep behind almost every hedge watched their progress.

with Dodson, another motor cyclist, made up Eyston's team, fourth. On his first lap Hall skidded badly at the Moate corner, at the end of the Newtownards-Comber straight, but he recovered well, and this was to prove one of his few errors, the skill of the driver and the roadworthiness of the Bentley blending into a relentless machine wearing down the start of the smaller cars. Staniland, with one of the 1 1/2-litre Rileys, made the first pit stop, to change plugs, and after two laps Black stopped at Comber with engine trouble.
Sorrowfully one had to cross out H.{Arthur M. Hanbury - Head Complaints} C. Hamilton's name, appearing for the last time in a racing programme, inserting in his place in the Aston Martin team

W. Sullivan's Ford and J.{Mr Johnson W.M.} R.{Sir Henry Royce} Cobb's Lagonda at the start, followed by the other two Fords.
