Your Ref................... Our Ref. TS/HTB/LP.{Mr Lappin} 12th, December 1935. Messrs.Rolls-Royce Ltd., DERBY. For the attention of Mr.W.A.Robotham. Dear Sirs, We have pleasure in referring to the visit of the writer to your Works yesterday and having handed to you one 13½" driven disc assembly in which we have provided alternative crimp and less set. The driven disc as handed to you should provide a total cushion of .048" and the maximum run out measures at the outer periphery .015". This you will appreciate should give a clearance of approximately .022" with a pressure plate lift of .085" which we understand is obtainable. For records sake we would advise that we are regarding the plate handed to you yesterday as plate No.3. It is our understanding that this plate will be tested in your Phantom car at the earliest opportunity, together with reduced spring pressure of 1750-lbs as suggested by us. We feel, however, it is desirable in our mutual interest to obtain a much better finish on the pressure plate and flywheel friction surfaces. Also it is our understanding that the plate at present fitted to your experimental car will be removed when convenient and returned to us so that we can re-set the crimp in a similar manner to plate No.3.
