Dynamo bearing brackets LOP.DE.250.

Both the ball and roller bearings dried up and the outer races turned in the housings causing wear and end play resulting in the fan fouling the casing. The oil holes were made up with dirt; these were formerly reduced to a very small size to prevent over-oiling. We recommend that grease caps or wick feeds be used.

Ignition Coils. LOP.D.756/J.{Mr Johnson W.M.}

The first 6,000 miles were run on the original coil and the remaining 15,000 miles on a Delco coil with no ballast resistance. No trouble was experienced. It was noted that the plus terminal of the Delco had to be connected to the distributor and the minus to the battery, as it was presumably marked for a positive earth system.

Distributor Board. LOP.DE.457.
Open type fuses.

The new fuses were reliable and satisfactory. There were signs of overheating of the clip of the small dynamo fuse and this blew on one occasion. No further trouble occurred after fitting a new piece of fuse wire and pinching up the clip. The strength of the spring clips is being looked into.

Lamps, Horns and Fittings LOP.DE.184.
Latest type wind tone horns.

The lamps were satisfactory and the reflectors did not flutter. The 60 watt bulbs were objected to by other road users and rightly so. 36 watt bulbs were fitted and they were found adequate having regard to the amount of night traffic nowadays.

The offside horn failed completely. This was seen and adjusted by Lucas representative at Derby and then worked correctly. The nearside horn failed occasionally for short periods. The trumpet fell off the offside horn due to the two fixing screws working loose.
