We like your suggestion re. using a sheet metal lock washer in place of spring washer, and agree that it would make a much better oil joint, probably quite effective in the absence of any pressure.

At the same time it is a more permanent form of lock more likely to deter people from removing these camshaft bearing dowel screws unnecessarily.

The sheet steel metal washer does not form an absolute oil seal possibly owing to the hardness of the material.

We have had some leak recently under low pressure oil on the relief valve unit externally, fortunately a position where a lock was not required and soft aluminium washers could be substituted.
