WE72. contd. (4.) at low speeds running backwards would be much less possible. As regards the distributor timing it might be possible (by increasing the backward overlap at full retard) to reduce the possibility of a spark passing over the insulation to the firing segment. on the magneto in question this spark over distance would be only .11". We make therefore the following suggestions :- a) Keep the timing to our figures rather on the early than the late side. b) Reduce the forward overlap at full advance on the distributor and increase the backward overlap. c) If possible increase the make ratio slightly to effect (b).
