E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} from Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} X4387 Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}5/LG29.12.21. EXHAUST HEATED THROTTLE AND PILOT JET. X4305 X4387 There are one or two points to be cleared up in connection with this scheme. One is the connection for the petrol pipe leading from the float chamber to the pilot jet. When we dispensed with the primer we can then do with an ordinary elbow fixed into the float chamber. We recommend that this elbow should extend into the float chamber so that sediment cannot drain into it. We have also found it necessary to arrange the return pipe for the exhaust gases from the throttle in the front silencer so that the pipe extends into the centre tube. We can then obtain an ejector effect. You will realise that at full throttle low speeds, we have got to do all we can to entice the gases to pass round the throttle or else we are going to have much less heat on the throttle than with the hot water. We are arranging that this connection is made in this way. We have also not yet received the lettering to go on to the Indicator plate on the Instrument Board. We should be pleased if you could settle up these points because we are getting a set ready to send to Springfield and we should like it to be complete X4327 GOSHAWK 11. You might add to your list of jobs required from you for Goshawk 11 - Control for Magneto. We have now an engine practically complete and ready for fitting the magneto and find there is no arrangement for control. It should be borne in mind that we shall need contd:- | ||
