THE BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON COMPANY, LIMITED.

Messrs.Rolls Royce Limited. May 17th 1928

advantage of this system is that a separate distributor head with its drive is not necessary.

To separate the distributor or contact breaker or both from the magneto necessarily involves complications in timing up the ignition system to the engine and we submit for your consideration the system we have developed and are now producing. This is fully described in our Instruction Book No.1332 enclosed herewith. Briefly, it comprises:-

(1) A Type CED-6 magneto which is of the polar inductor type and can be supplied suitable for 3/4 or 1-1/2 engine speed.

(2) An ignition coil as shown on our Drg.CY.57142, also enclosed, and

(3) A High and Low-Tension Change-Over switch.

Connection diagrams for earthed and insulated lighting circuits are also enclosed.

With regard to the timing range, we regret that we cannot greatly increase this beyond 22-1/2 degrees, but by the use of the Automatic Timing Device we can very closely approximate the total timing range of 58 degrees on the magneto shaft. The advantages of the Automatic Timing Device have resulted in wide application during recent years and during the past two or three years our business in these devices has expanded very considerably, many of our customers having adopted this as a standard fitment. We will not, however, enlarge upon these advantages as we feel sure that you are fully conversant with them. A description of this device is given in our Instruction Book No.1337, which we enclose for your perusal. Oh!

We shall be pleased to furnish you with any further information you may require and would welcome the opportunity of demonstrating the performance of this system by submitting a sample equipment for you to try out.

Yours faithfully,

A.{Mr Adams} P. YOUNG,
