BRAKE SQUEAKS.

On the Bentley, in particular, we do not think we have taken full advantage of the various brake linings we have been testing to eliminate brake squeaks.

As far as I can recollect, MR. was adopted, in the first place, because we wanted a lining which had a very high resistance to wear. You will agree that one of the few criticisms we have not had against the Bentley brakes is that they wear out too quickly.

The other day, a friend of mine complained bitterly of brake squeaks; his brakes were re-lined; his brakes continued to squeak, we then re-lined them again, but this time with a zinc wire bonded lining, BZ, and he is perfectly satisfied. It strikes me that we could, with advantage, try this lining on other customers who have repeatedly suffered from brake squeaks.

I have had a talk round the 15,000 miles' test and quarterly complaints with Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}, and we can see a way of getting accommodation for you here, which I will discuss with you when you come to Derby next week.

I think we will have to treat the secretarial work on the 15,000 miles test, and the quarterly complaints as two separate issues, and that you will have to re-engage Behnan for the time being for the French job, though in his case, it will not be continuous. For the work here, we shall have to engage somebody else.

Please let me know by return if R.R. Sch.1022 is required for the P.III urgently, or not. At present we do not know what priority to give it.
