X.53. RE USE OF BENZOL.

With reference to attached memo. from Ck.{Mr Clark} regarding the use of 100% benzol for our cars. We do not recommend using 100% benzol on our cars chiefly because with some brands of benzol the petrol filters are quickly rotted away. This may cause considerable trouble by allowing dirt to get into the low speed jet. When 100% benzol is sued, a heavier float should be fitted to the carburetters. It will be found that it is possible to run a with a slightly weaker mixture. No difference should be noticed as regards the running of the car.

Our experience has proved that a mixture of 50% petrol and 50% benzol is preferable to 100% benzol. With this mixture there is less smell from the exhaust; there-is no risk of freezing; there is no necessity to alter the carburetter at all; there is less risk of the petrol filter being destroyed.
